It may not be the commercial hub of Kerala, but Kollam still is an important city. Known as Quilon in the earlier times, it used to be a significant seaport witnessing trade with the traders of Phoenicia, Arabia, China, Greece and Rome. Kollam is today famous as the processing part of the fascinating Kerala, popular for its Cashew trade. It is also an important hub for the State's marine products industry, with the port of Neendakara being the centre for trawlers and ice plants.

Situated some 71 Kms from the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram along the coastline of Ashthamudi Lake, Kollam is host to some beautiful buildings and structures.
